You A-mews Me!

It's that time again! The My Favorite Things team are starting up teasers for the May release, and as usual, we have some gorgeous stamps and Die-namics to share!

First up today I have a sample using the newest Claire Keay set - You A-mews Me! I just love these cute little guys!

Isn't that image the cutest!? You'll also spot two new Die-namics on my card, the squiggle border and Designer Labels 1 STAX - love this shape! I've also used Mix and Match Banners.

I'm a sucker for a good font, and I love the one used on these sets! I've finished off the inside of my card simply with a sentiment and paper scraps.

Creative Chat: Copic Markers

Today the MFT team are talking Copics! I'll show you how I store mine, and give you some of my fave colour combos.

I get asked a LOT where I bought my copics, as they are SO expensive in New Zealand. I bought mine in the 72 sets of Ciao markers from E-bay. Bought this way, they cost $4 per marker (including shipping) versus the $8 they generally cost in NZ stores. I filled a couple of gaps with Sketch marker colours, but mostly have Ciao.

This is my Copic storage. I have five of these Fiskars holders. I got mine at Spotlight and paid between $10 and $20 for each set. I love how easily portable they are and sometimes move them into the living room if I'm going to be doing a lot of colouring in front of the TV.

The thing I really like about these holders is being able to remove individual cups. I have all my Copics in front of me on a shelf on my desk, and I generally just reach for the colour family I need at the time. It saves a lot of room on my workspace.

The big downside to Ciao markers is the lack of labelling on the ends. I labelled mine using a label maker and 1/4" Circle punch. I created the labels using the smallest font size, typing out the labels with a few spaces between each one until I hit the character limit on the label maker. After printing I simply punched them out and adhered to my Copics. The 1/4" circles fit on the caps exactly.

I get asked about colour combos a lot as well. Below are three of my faves for colouring a la mode and Pure Innocence images. If you are just starting out with Copics, any of these combos would be really useful.

My go-to hair combo. I really need to practice with some other combos so I stop using this one so much! I generally colour the hair last and always just reach for what I know works.

Skin combo #1.

Skin combo #2. I don't have any rules about which one I use for certain images, it just depends on what I feel like that day!

Large Royal Rose Die-namics Die

I've used PI Freckles for my card, and made some luscious large roses with the new Large Royal Rose Die-namics!

I coloured my image with Copics, and paper pieced the dress. I made two Royal Roses and added in the gorgeous Royal Leaves. My sentiment was stamped on a Fishtail Flag STAX and the Layered Hearts Die-namics made a perfect background layer.

The sentiment inside my card comes with the exclusive sentiment set only available with the VIP collection. I used paper scraps and a Hearts a Plenty heart to tie the inside and outside of the card together.

WSC 67 - Teacher

Hi everyone - it's time for this week's MFT WSC sketch!

I've used the new An Apple for Teacher set, her long legs fit the long panel on the sketch perfectly.

I've coloured my image with Copics, and added the sentiment on the side of my focal panel. I have a whole bunch of shiny gold embellishments I never use - but a gold star for a teacher appreciation card seemed appropriate! I used the Open Bracket Border Die-namics to frame the tartan paper.

Inside I've used the Notebook Edge Die-namics to add some school related detail to the card - this is still one of my fave Die-namics!

Be sure to check out Kim's blog for all the designers playing along this week - you won't want to miss their gorgeous creations!

To play along with WSC, create a card with the provided sketch and upload it to SCS using the keyword MFTWSC67. A new sketch will be posted each Wednesday on the MFT blog and also in the forum. Each week one random winner will win a $15 voucher to spend at MFT, and if you use MFT stamps on your creation, you'll get a $5 bonus taking your voucher win up to $20! New Product Tour - Dress Up Diva!

It's time! All the new releases you've been drooling over all week are available RIGHT NOW here in the MFT Boutique.

One of the most fun things about being a My Favorite Things designer is being able to participate in the release of new products by submitting concepts. Today I get to work with one of my concepts, Pure Innocence Dress Up Diva! It's so fun seeing an idea come to life. I was inspired by the dress up box my sister and I had when we were kids, this cutie is wearing everything but the kitchen sink - just like I would have!

Because I figured she might just have thrown on anything she could see, I chose to go wild with my colour scheme on this card. No colour coordinating here! This is also a great set for adding lots of extra details, so I broke out the stickles on her boa and shoes, liquid pearls for her necklace and glitter pen on the purse and flower.

I left my background and ribbon stark white as there was so much colour in the outfit. I LOVE the new Mini Doily Circles Die-namics, they are SO cute! I've used one as the base for my sentiment here and finished off with a rhinestone flourish.

Inside I used the large version of the Dizzy Doily and stamped my Dress Up Diva in Pale Plum ink before curving the sentiment slightly and stamping it overtop.

Don't forget to head on over to Kim's Blog to see ALL the designers showing off the new goodies from this release. Leave comments along the way to be in to win some blog candy!

Zzzzz!

Hi, thanks for stopping by! I'm so excited by the new character in the MFT line-up - Mouse in the House is ADORABLE!

I have to tell you - today's card was made for a retiree, but it could so easily be for myself, I am SLEEPY these days! In bed by 8pm sleepy. Everyone tells me to enjoy it now, in less than nine weeks it'll be a little harder to nap with a newborn in the house!

I've coloured this cutie with Copics and paper pieced the chair and ottoman. My layout is pretty simple - the image was cut with Circle STAX and layered on a barely-there Open Scallop Doily Die-namics.   I added my ribbon on a slant for interest and to avoid covering up the image too much. The new By the Letters Uppercase Die-namics served as my sentiment for the front of the card.

I love that this set comes with a retirement sentiment - retiring is definitely cause for celebration! I've used the Open Scallop Border on the inside of the card.
