Be Negative!

In 2011, MFT is working harder than ever to inspire you, and we have come up with something we think you'll really enjoy. Our Design Team Creative Challenge is a new monthly feature, where we challenge our design team to explore their creative side using a specific theme, product or technique. This month, we're going to "be negative."   Our designers will show you what you can do with the negative space after you cut out your Die-namics, or the other half of patterned paper, cardstock or felt that is leftover when you're done with your Die-namics!
*******************************************

I love using the negative or left over parts of die-namics to get even more design bang out of those wonderful tools! I have a video here on some of the die-namics I like to use in dual ways.

When I saw this challenge a simple card popped into my head....

I've used the newly released Pumpkin Patch Girl and the Say What die-namic to create a window through to the inside of the card to highlight the sentiment. I've turned the speech bubble on it's side and really like the look! I paper pieced her little turtle neck, how adorable is that MME paper?

I have a wee tip - I cut through two thick layers of cardstock and the patterned paper using my big shot and a shim under the die-namic. It wasn't until after that I realised I should have cut away the middle of the brown cardstock to get rid of some excess bulk when cutting! So if you mimic this look, you can cut away some of that extra cardstock so you don't have to crank so hard!

I seem to have misplaced my photo of the inside of this card, but I simply shadow stamped the PI girl beside the sentiment.

Head on over to Kim's Blog to find a list of all the designers getting negative today!

Here are the Die-namics I've used today:

Some Bunny....

I'm back with another Amber Ink creation. these adorable bunnies were a must-have for me, I just love them, and wait till you see the sentiment! You can even get ipaper to match!

I had to go for pastel shades for this card. The Love Bunnies - Flirt image was coloured with Copics and I added a hint of liquid applique to their tails. I cut them out with nesties and sponged around the circle with Antique Linen distress ink. A few prima flowers and some silver jumbo brads finished off this simple card. The paper I used is from the Two Scoops range by Basic Grey.

I told you the sentiment was cute! I must have looked at it ten times before I realised the B was a bunny - adorable!

WSC # 40 - Precious Little Lamb

I know you're probably all anxiously awaiting orders from the spectacular MFT release we've just had - so why not distract yourself with a fun sketch challenge?!

For my card today I inked up the so-adorable-it-hurts Precious Little Lamb, the new addition to our Pure Innocence line.

I cheated just a little bit and squished the sketch so it would fit a square card. This one is 4x4 - I love that this size still fits in a regular envelope!

Precious Little Lamb was coloured with copics and I added a little sparkle with a spica pen on the flowers. I swapped out the flag shape for the new Oval Tab - don't you love that shape? My buttons are stitched on over top card buttons cut with the button quartet die-namic.

Inside my card I have used the fabulous new Oval Decorative Doily. I can't get enough of this die-namic!

Be sure to check out Kim's blog for all the designers playing along this week - you won't want to miss their gorgeous creations!

To play along with WSC, create a card with the provided sketch and upload it to SCS using the keyword MFTWSC40. A new sketch will be posted each Wednesday on the MFT blog and also in the forum. Each week one random winner will win a $15 voucher to spend at MFT, and if you use MFT stamps on your creation, you'll get a $5 bonus taking your voucher win up to $20! We'll be chatting each week on the sketch thread, so come join us in the MFT forum!

I just love this new feature day - it's so fun to focus on the amazing die-namics MFT offers each month! Today I've mixed and matched a few sets and dies and I also have a little video tutorial for you.

My focal image for this card is from Inspired by Autumn, the tag is from Bon Appetit, and inside I've used a sentiment from Clearly Sentimental about Abundance - they all work so well together!

You'll spot a few of our new die-namics on this card, but I wanted to focus on how I made this super simple medallion using the vintage flourish die-namic.

I've created a little video showing a couple of different options for this medallion...

View it full size on You Tube.

Here's the simple inside:

I have another clean and simple card for you this afternoon for this week's Riley challenge. Laurie has asked us to include leaves on our project.

I've used Raking Leaves Riley who was just perfect for this challenge! The sentiment is from MFT's Inspired by Autumn set and will be released this month, I've also used the Woodgrain Fence and Branch and Leaves Die-namics to create a little scene. The paper is Basic Grey from my scrap box!

Card for my Fungi!

Hey everyone! I'm here with my first Amber Ink creation for this month. I'll have five more to share over the coming weeks.

I am a sucker for a good pun stamp, and this one definitely fit the bill! I totally had to read it twice (something to do with how us kiwis pronounce fungi, not my super slow brain!) and when it clicked I laughed for a good few minutes.

I just knew Shan would get a kick out of this stamp so I HAD to make him a card with it. He'll often talk to me in "stamp" language - he'll say 'owl love you' - that kinda of thing. I'm happy to report he loved it as much as I thought he would!

Cute right? love that stamp! In fact, I had so much colouring it up one night I came very close to burning the lasagne (it was ok despite the extra 20 mins in the oven!)

I kept the design clean and simple. I've been looking for a reason to use that toadstool embossing folder! Shanan said this was one of his favourite cards ever, I sooooo didn't tell him the image was 50c! YUP... 50c! You can grab it here.

 Thanks for stopping by!

Have Hope

I know you've been waiting for Pure Innocence day and by now I'm sure you've been delighted by peeks at a brand new character in the line, yay! Today though I have gone with one of our classic little gals, with a special message.

Pure Innocence - Have Hope is a beautiful set just perfect for encouraging loved ones or reminding them just how much you care. I coloured her with Copics, cut her out and popped her up on Jody boosters.

The inside sentiment says it all. I shadow stamped the image and very lightly coloured the ribbon pink.

Thankful for You

It's à la modes day and the team have two simply adorable sets to share! I'm using Sweetest Pumpkin in the Patch today.

Isn't she cute? I have a few new die-namics on this card of course, I'm loving the new postage stamp border and the oval tab is fast becoming a fave. I've also used the vintage flourish as a leaf form for my pretty posies flower. I love this die and I might just have a video focusing on it later in the week!

Inside my card I've used the postage stamp border again and lightly stamped the image in grey ink.
