In 2011, MFT is working harder than ever to inspire you, and we have come up with something we think you'll really enjoy. Our Design Team Creative Challenge is a new monthly feature, where we challenge our design team to explore their creative side using a specific theme, product or technique. This month, we're going to "be negative." Our designers will show you what you can do with the negative space after you cut out your Die-namics, or the other half of patterned paper, cardstock or felt that is leftover when you're done with your Die-namics!
*******************************************
I love using the negative or left over parts of die-namics to get even more design bang out of those wonderful tools! I have a video here on some of the die-namics I like to use in dual ways.
When I saw this challenge a simple card popped into my head....
I've used the newly released Pumpkin Patch Girl and the Say What die-namic to create a window through to the inside of the card to highlight the sentiment. I've turned the speech bubble on it's side and really like the look! I paper pieced her little turtle neck, how adorable is that MME paper?
I have a wee tip - I cut through two thick layers of cardstock and the patterned paper using my big shot and a shim under the die-namic. It wasn't until after that I realised I should have cut away the middle of the brown cardstock to get rid of some excess bulk when cutting! So if you mimic this look, you can cut away some of that extra cardstock so you don't have to crank so hard!
I seem to have misplaced my photo of the inside of this card, but I simply shadow stamped the PI girl beside the sentiment.
Head on over to Kim's Blog to find a list of all the designers getting negative today!
Here are the Die-namics I've used today:
